An Alabama-based youth sports safety initiative is expanding beyond the state into Louisiana after Governor Jeff Landry endorsed the program.

The CoachSafely Foundation training program focuses on injury prevention, recognition, and proper response during youth sports activities.

Originally passed in Alabama in 2018, the law made it mandatory for youth coaches of athletes age 14 and under to complete safety training.

According to the foundation, over 60,000 volunteer coaches have completed certification, impacting more than 900,000 young athletes.

The initiative is supported by partnerships with parks, recreation departments, and organizations like the Alabama Recreation and Parks Association.

Louisiana’s adoption of the program could be a major step toward expanding the initiative nationwide.
